The AE86, some photo’s that stuck

soo back in 1998/1999 I came across some photo’s that really changed the course of what i was gonna do for the next 5 years or so about the style and type of car i was going to focus on building. the focus was a more pure sports car, small high revving engines where nothing new to me, but rwd (rear wheel drive) was new and so was really getting into car control, both up to the limit of grip and beyond the grip and into controlling a slide. the ae86 corolla’s became the coolest car to me, they were dirt cheap, soo easy to modify, and pretty quick in the corners…. altho back then there were no parts that you could just go out and buy, so the “ghetto mods” started with cutting springs and lead to building our own front coilovers and, in the rear, using better cut springs….
it was awesome for those 4-5 years…. but then the cars became expensive due to popularity, and there were better cars to be had for less money, there were so many parts that became available it was not longer and car you built with creativity but a car you just bought and bolted together, then there was the widebody kits and fiberglass everything (I’m not a fan except in the occasional bumper, sheet metal all the way, work the original body out to fit those wheels) and then the “scene” (ewww) and organized drift events (to me an oxymoron). and so i moved on after “building” 3 corollas, but I wanted to show you some of the early photo’s that really stuck for me.
